James Roe won the first road race of the season over a short but punchy 50km 7-lap route on the Coudré circuit. With many of last year’s Island Games road squad off island, mountain bike specialist Roe made the most of the reduced field to break away from Josh Saunders at the top of the circuit on the final lap to claim a solo victory on a chilly but dry morning. Tony Bleasdale and Phil Touzeau battled it out for third and fourth respectively, having stuck with Roe and Saunders until the final climb, with the remainder of the combined Division 1 and 2 field scattered over the course.
Mark Smith also scored a solo victory in the Division 3 race ahead of Kieran Lee, who pipped Academy junior Emile Le Compte who showed plenty of promise in his first road race. Click here for full results and laptimes.
