Round 3 of the Guernsey Velo Club Mountain Bike Series Sponsored by Ian Browns Cycles, took place on Sunday on a brand new course at Beaucette marina a challenging technical course, with the weather playing its part make parts of the course very slippery and very muddy.
The Elite race started fast with riders fighting for the lead position on a tight technical track where the best position was at the front. It was Roe who held the lead after the start and set about a blistering first lap, holding a 20 second lead over Van Katwyk heading into lap 2. Soon after Van Katwyk had technical problem with his gears forcing the rider to retire whilst in an impressive second place. Meaning Serafin moved up into 2nd, Colver 3rd and the ever improving young Vaudin in 4th.
The Advanced was led by Miles Davey, but with a downpour at 2/3rds distance conditions worsened allowing Jamie Rive on his single speed to more up to 2nd ahead of Pete Miller in 3rd.
The Veteran race was led by Mark Naftel from the start but on the penultimate lap Adrian Vaudin, who’d earlier dropped to the back of the field with a dropped chain over-took and pulled out a lead to take his first win of the Winter XC Series with James Duguid in a solid third place.
In the Sport/U16/U14/12 race as the race started the rain came down very heavy making the course very slippery, it was Jack Le Tissier and Sam Reed leading the way at the front with Will Le Ray and Tom Stables chasing them down.
The Under 10s race was ran on a shorter course and it was Chay Kennedy-Cook who lead from start to finish, with Lilly Medlock in 2nd just ahead of Georgie Le Page in 3rd and Sam Scott in 4th, the Novice race was ran on the same course with Rob Naftel in 1st and Karen Le Page in 2nd.
