Round Five of the Guernsey Velo Club Cyclocross series sponsored by Cycleworld returned to the motocross track at Torteval last weekend. Riders were treated to a variety of surfaces and all returned home with clean bikes and quiet drivetrains thanks to the unexpected dry weather.
The main CX race was won by Senior rider Mark Le Page, taking a third consecutive win and proving his CX credentials on all surfaces. With the overall title still a very slim hope before the race started, Mark waited until Lap 4 to stretch his lead over eventual second place finisher Zach Smith. The Youth rider grabbed the fastest lap of the race and maintains a twenty point lead at the top of the series standings going into the final round next week. Senior rider Nathaniel Jones kept his title hopes alive with another strong podium in third.
Fourth place Mark Smith pipped fellow grand veteran Mark Naftel ahead of top junior rider Tim White with Alex Clark and Jason Kon not far behind. Best finish of the series so far for Esther Reid in ninth and Tristan Robilliard rounding off the top ten.
In the MTB race, James Roe took the win comfortably ahead of Youth riders Seth Davey and Charlie Tourtel. Series leader Pete Sargent crossed the line in fourth ahead of series title rival Wayne Piercey.
In the shorter Youth race, Remi Le Compte beat Bailey Smalldon, Theo Horton and Harry Manning to set up an exciting final round with only 5 points covering three Under 14 riders!
