GVC rider Zach Smith's debut at the UCI Nations Cup in Oldenzaal Holland was nothing short of exhilarating. Competing against a formidable field of 90 plus starters from Belgium, Germany, France, and the host nation, Holland, Zach found himself in the midst of some of Europe's best youth riders. The atmosphere was electric, and the level of competition was intense, providing Zach with a unique opportunity to test his skills on an international stage.
Five laps of the 5.2km course was a true test of endurance and technical ability, featuring a variety of challenging obstacles including multiple rock gardens, a pump track, log rolls, steep drops, and jumps that demanded precision and courage. Despite being one of the younger competitors, Zach approached the course with a fearless determination. His strategy was clear, to attack the course from his grid position of 43 and make the most of every feature, showcasing his technical ability.
The experience of racing alongside seasoned riders not only pushed him to perform at his best but also provided invaluable lessons that he can carry forward for the rest of the season. The thrill of competing at such a high level ignited a passion in Zach, fueling his ambition to continue improving and striving for success.
Looking ahead, Zach and several other club riders are gearing up for the first round of British Cycling’s National Series in Cannock next weekend. This upcoming event will be another chance for Zach to apply what he learned in Holland and further establish himself in the competitive cycling landscape.
